CALL OUT – Be part of the revival of Marionette Puppetry in Scotland

Vision Mechanics is at the start of an exciting journey to revive the enchanting art of marionette puppetry, a once flourishing craft that is in danger of becoming extinct in the UK.

With the support of Creative Scotland, trusts and foundations, we are offering free professional development opportunities to those wishing to gain experience of creating marionette theatre.

The successful candidates will work with professional puppet makers and theatre artists on the development of Vision Mechanics’ new marionette production, The Magnificent Miniature Marionette Circus, with opportunities to learn carving, puppet mechanics, scenic painting, design and making costumes, sets and props.

Placement Dates
We are offering placements of between 1 and 3 weeks, from 21 July to 8 September 2025.

No prior puppetry experience required. The opportunity may also interest experienced puppeteers who want to expand their knowledge into marionette puppetry.

Successful candidates will have all their expenses covered.

Whether you’re an artist, maker, performer, or simply curious to know more, we’d love to hear from you.
