Dragon Scarers in Angus

24th September 2015 | By Anne, Vision Mechanics, News
Monikie

In preparation for the DragonQuest event at Monikie Country Park next month, Vision Mechanics’ artists have been working with over 100 participants from local schools and young people’s groups to make Dragon Scarers.

These large, colourful sculptures will be placed in and around Monikie to prevent the Dragon from coming along and causing any accidental damage to local spaces.

Today children from P6 and P7 Monikie Primary School, were putting the final touches to their Dragon Scarer before it’s assembled.

The Dragon Scarers Project workshop programme has been made possible through the generous support of  The Gannochy Trust, Cashback for Communities Arts Fund and Creative Scotland.

Did you manage to see Drift this summer? A vital part of our critically acclaimed production was its soundtrack – a mesmerising mingling of soundscape, dialogue and song that immerses the listener in Betty Mouat’s incredible journey and gives an insight into her fascinating character.

In response to a large number of audience requests we have set up a campaign to raise money to release it as an audio-CD. Whether you were able to visit the show or not, we hope that you will soon be able to enjoy the unique experience of Drift in the comfort of your own home (or on a windswept beach of your choice!).

The music was composed by Eddie McGuire; libretto by Judith Adams; vocals by Gerda Stevenson; sound design by Nik Paget-Tomlinson and Niroshini Thambar. Just follow the link for more information and to pre-order the CD today

Drift on tour – “A beach trip like no other” *****

10th July 2015 | By Anne, Vision Mechanics, News

Vision Mechanics has already taken Drift to 2 locations on our tour and are currently performing at Skaw Beach on Unst as part of Shetland Nature Festival and UnstFest.

We have been overwhelmed by the really positive and heartfelt response to the show so far. Here is a small sample of comments from audience members:

“Drift is superb :) dont miss out on a chance to experience it. Today’s haar gave a perfect backdrop for an emotional feast of sound, sight, touch & imagination.”  Chas (Nairn)

“A wonderful theatrical experience on Nairn beach…Director, Symon Macintyre  has orchestrated the work of artists and musicians to deliver an emotional, immersive experience which cleverly explores new dimensions of Betty’s solitude. The songs and tunes on the production’s mp3 player were beautifully performed and the visual art was varied and imaginative.”  Elizabeth (Nairn)

“Thoroughly enjoyed this production. The walk in, the outdoor environment and set participation all added to living the story along with Betty. Drift is a journey.” Stacia (Pettycur Bay)

“I went today. It’s brilliant. Loved the atmosphere it creates and how it pulls you in – completely. I didn’t know though that you could turn the mobiles in the captains booth. So I want to go again. Go if you can. Everyone should know about Betty Mouat.”  Alison (Pettycur Bay)
